Emoticon

A face made from keyboard symbols, like :-) (emotion + icon).

Priya ended her message with a smiling emoticon.

Remember: EMOTion + ICON = emoticon. Emoji is NOT a blend: it is a Japanese word, e (picture) + moji (character).
