Pend (hang)
Pend
Latin pendere: to hang.
The clock's pendulum swung slowly from side to side.
Depend
To rely on someone or something for help or support.
Plants depend on sunlight and water to grow.
Suspend
To hang something up; also to stop something for a while.
Paper lanterns were suspended above the street for the festival.
Remember: Pend = hang: a pendant hangs on a chain; pending work 'hangs' undone. In British English, dependent describes; a dependant is a person you support.
