About Gerund
Gerund helps Indian learners understand English and use it with confidence — from a child's first sounds to a professional's next meeting. It is built for Indian classrooms by an English teacher who teaches with it.
Our mission
To help every Indian learner understand how English works, not just memorise its rules — and to give their teachers everything they need to teach it well.
Why Gerund is different
Most English courses are written for learners whose first language works like English. Indian languages often do not: many have no articles, use the continuous tense more freely, and pair different prepositions with the same ideas.
That is why a fluent student will say “I have fever” or “I am having two brothers”. It is not carelessness; it is the grammar of their home language showing through, in a small number of predictable places. Gerund is built around those places. Our lessons explain where a mistake comes from, so that students can recognise it and correct it themselves.
What Gerund offers
- Gerund Foundation — Classes 1 to 5. Phonics, picture cards and lessons for the classroom screen, printable worksheets, and gentle practice for older children.
- Gerund School — Classes 6 to 12. 57 grammar units, each with a lesson, practice, tests and printable summaries, planned year by year to match the class.
- For adults. Everyday English for confident daily conversation, and Gerund for Work for the English of meetings, emails and presentations.
- For teachers and schools. A year planner, class tests, a resource library and a school dashboard — so a teacher can plan, teach and print from one place.
How we teach
- Understand first. Each idea starts with a picture or an everyday example, then the rule, then practice.
- Learn from mistakes. Wrong answers come with a short, kind explanation and return later for another try.
- No scores or streaks for children. Children learn better without being ranked. Teachers see what their class needs; no child is compared with another.
- Reviewed by a teacher. Every lesson, worksheet and question is reviewed by a teacher before it reaches a classroom.
Children's privacy
We collect as little as possible about children — for a school, a name and a class. There is no advertising, and we do not track children's behaviour. Gerund is designed around India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Our privacy notice explains exactly what we hold and why, in plain language.
Who we are
Gerund was founded in Bengaluru by Haigreeva Kondury, an English teacher who uses Gerund with his own students. What we build is shaped by real lessons: when a classroom needs something, it is added.
